People on Location
Jan. 27-March 31, 2010 (2pm to 5pm), Ten week class
Environmental portraits offer a glimpse into the world of another person. Filled with details from an individual's life, they often have greater depth than a formal portrait. The subject is revealed not only through posture, expression, and composition, but also the setting.
Each element shows another aspect of the subject's personality, requiring a photographer's careful attention to detail. In this course, students learn how to construct ideas for environmental portraits, choose locations and props, establish a rapport with the subject, and use both natural and artificial light to create expressive, complex portraits.
